Monroe County Community Foundation scholarships
This post is for my readers in Monroe County, Mich.
The Community Foundation of Monroe County handles many of the independent and locally-funded scholarships that students in Monroe County, Mich., actually earn. The foundation sent its annual scholarship announcement to The Monroe Evening News Today.
My newspaper will list the scholarship announcement notice on the Classroom page, but in the meantime, here are the details. Some of these awards are for undergraduate students, some for private school, some for graduate school. They are all for the 2010-11 academic year.
All of these scholarships are for students who live in the listed communities or attended the specified schools in Monroe County, Mich.
The list:
- Ahadi Women in Science Scholarship – graduating female seniors from any Monroe County High School who will be pursuing a degree in the medical field.
- Airport Community School Scholarship – graduating senior at Airport High School.
- Geri Antonelli Memorial Scholarship – for students attending St. Charles Catholic grade school in Newport.
- Monroe County Bar Association Scholarship – Graduate students in a college of law.
- Robert and Luella Breitner Memorial Scholarship - for graduating seniors at Summerfield High School.
- Brent Ansted Memorial Scholarship – graduating senior from Bedford High School pursuing a degree in Liberal Arts.
- Christy Carducci Memorial Scholarship – graduating senior of Monroe High School participating in the music department.
- Daimler Chrysler Scholarship – graduating seniors at Dundee High School in the area of Technology.
- Nicholas Clemens scholarship- a graduating senior at Airport High School.
- Day Memorial Scholarship – graduating senior at Airport High School.
- Mary Daume Scholarship Fund – graduate student in library science.
- Rich Duvall Memorial Scholarship Fund – graduating senior at Flat Rock High School.
- Grattan & Stephen T. Gray Scholarship – graduating senior from any Monroe County High School, Gibraltar, New Boston, Huron, and Milan in a field related to the newspaper industry.
- Merel F. Keck & Maggie M. Keck Scholarship Fund – for a female grad of any Monroe County High School who will be attending Monroe County Community College Nursing program; For graduating seniors of any Monroe County High School pursuing a Finance degree; For a male grad of any Monroe County High School entering into the Southern Baptist Seminary.
- Dr. Annetta Kelley Scholarship Fund – for a graduating 8th grader from St. John’s Catholic Grade School attending Saint Mary Catholic Central.
- LaRocca Family Scholarship Fund – for a graduating senior from Summerfield High School
- LaHood Scholarship Fund – students attending St. Mary’s Catholic Grade School.
- Marilyn Iott Memorial Fund – for graduating seniors attending Deerfield and Summerfield High Schools
- MSM Scholarship – for St. Joseph Catholic School (K-8).
- Milt & Sally Knabusch Ministerial and Parochial School Teacher Scholarship for students in Lutheran churches or schools.
- Shannon Revel Scholarship for any Monroe County Public High School senior enrolling in the field of environmental engineering or in the field of engineering.
- Rewarding Academic Excellence Fund – a scholarship for 11th graders at Monroe Public Schools.
- Ryan Wolniewicz Memorial Hockey Scholarship to graduating seniors and member of Bedford High School Hockey team.
- Roy Sanders Memorial Scholarship for students attending St. Charles Grade School.
- Summerfield Scholarship – for graduating seniors attending Summerfield Schools.
- Spencer and Lucille Wagar Memorial Scholarship for graduates of Monroe High School attending University of Michigan.
- Charles and Virginia Whitten Scholarship for post secondary education.
- Dorothy Manausso-Wuest, Gerald A. Wuest and Jay Wuest Memorial Scholarship – for graduating seniors at Saint Mary Catholic Central.

Nazareth Association scholarship taking applications
The Monroe Evening News has been sent this press release from the Nazareth Association:
Kalamazoo, MI – The Nazareth Association is offering two $1,000 scholarships to undergraduate students who will be a junior or senior attending a Catholic college or university during the 2010-2011 academic year.
Applicants must be full time students and maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA. The application process includes the submission of the Nazareth Association scholarship application, a list of collegiate and extra-curricular activities, all undergraduate transcripts, completion of an essay stating the applicants’ educational and career goals, and three letters of recommendation. The deadline for the scholarship application is March 15, 2010.
The Nazareth Association is comprised of alumni, friends, and benefactors dedicated to the tradition and mission of Nazareth College, Barbour Hall, Nazareth Academy and the Borgess/St. Camillus/St. Joseph Schools of Nursing.
The scholarship program is intended to support students at Catholic colleges and universities that reflect a purpose and philosophy similar to those institutions.
