About those corporate holiday press releases

It is typical during December that corporate press releases get sent to newspapers, bloggers, and local broadcast stations with ideas and suggestions on how to get through the holiday season with one’s wallet or sanity intact.
Yes, these items are public relations campaigns. But sometimes there’s some really good material and information in them.
When money-saving tips arrive at The Monroe Evening News, they often get directed to my desk. I pick through the notices to share what I think are the best or most interesting ideas and tips.
So yes, there is editorial review and selection involved on the corporate press releases that I post. I also go through that process when I’m scanning the Michigan headlines for the day or linking to what other bloggers are talking about this week.
The focus I look for on any mentions and links are:
Is the information useful or interesting to southeast Michigan families on a budget? If so, I think about how best to present it on my blog.
